ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Jeanine VanSise

Jeanine&CristianONE.jpg

Jeanine began dancing Tango by accident in 2007 while studying at The University of Oregon. Finding Tango changed her life and she spent several years obsessively dancing every night of the week. In 2010 Jeanine began teaching Tango at The University of Oregon and was Hostess and DJ for Eugene’s popular 'Milonga Entre Suenos' every Saturday night alongside Carmela Hill-Burke. She has been DJ'ing around Oregon for the past several years and continues to be a driving force in the Eugene tango scene.

Outside of Tango, Jeanine is a passionate educator. She  brings this passion for teaching to her tango classes. Her training as an educator make her classes fun and accessible to students of all levels. While teaching technique is important to her, Jeanine emphasizes finding a love of and connection for the dance. She teaches her students how to be continuous drivers of their own learning and growth. Jeanine focuses on developing skills to make each tanda you have, with a wide variety of partners, feel as lovely as possible. She also strives to help follows find their own bodies and style within their dance.

Cristian Sierra

Cristian began dancing tango in 2002 in Santiago de Chile. During his first years (2003-2008), he spent much of his time working as a DJ in the Milonga scene and became one of the most popular tango DJs in Chile.

In 2008 he began to focus more on dancing. This lead to competing in and making it to the finals in two championships in Chile. In 2009, Cristian studied with master teacher, Carlitos Espinoza, as well as Rodrigo Ruiz and Karina Anton.

In 2010, Cristian won the Chilean championship “Locos por el Tango”. That success spiked his popularity as a tango dancer and he became a frequently requested performer and teacher throughout Chile. Also in 2010, Cristian also competed in the Tango World Championship in Buenos Aires and studied with Thierry Le Coq and Eduardo Pareja, both of whom have been very influential in developing his dance.

In April 2013 Cristian moved to San Francisco and currently enjoys being a part of the vibrant Bay Area tango community.  Since moving to the US, Cristian has been very busy teaching and DJ'ing at festivals -- mostly in the Pacific Coast and Mountain regions. Some in our community met and learned from Cristian at Burning Tango last year and will do so again in June 2015!
