December Intensive for All Levels: Ocho Cortado
Every month, tango classes in Boise take on a new theme, allowing beginner dancers to learn a new aspect of tango through repetition ... or allow experienced dancers to deepen their skill in a particular subject. November's theme is the ocho cortado. Here's a level guide so you can choose the class or classes that are right for you:
Level 0 (Never danced tango before)
Beginner series lesson, 7:00 pm - 8:00 every Thursday night at Ochos (see description below)
Monday's beginner tango lesson hosted by BSU Tango Club, starts at 7:30 pm (more info)
Level 1 (Some experience with tango)
"Tango Focus" lesson, 8:00 pm - 9:00 every Thursday night at Ochos (see description below)
Level 2 (Comfortable with tango)
"Tango Focus" lesson, 8:00 pm - 9:00 every Thursday night at Ochos. You don't need to have taken the 7:00 beginner class to participate in the lesson (though you should anyway!)
"Tango Beyond" lesson, 7:00 pm - 8:00 every Sunday at Solid (see description below)
What is the ocho cortado?
The ocho cortado or “cut ocho” is an iconic figure in Argentine tango, and is one of the most versatile and useful combinations for the social dance floor. The beginning of the video to the left shows the sequence. There are many variations, timings, entrances, exits, and embellishments to explore in the ocho cortado…which is why we can spend a whole month on it!
Schedule and Descriptions
